Beef Randang (Rendeng)

This Beef Rendang is a Maranao style version on the Indonesian 'Beef Randang' spicy meat dish originating from Minangkabau region in West Sumatra Indonesia.

Ingredients:

Melted Butter2 tbsp
Garlic6 cloves
Red Onions2 medium sized
Ginger2 tbsp / chopped
Red Hot Chillies5-6 pcs
Bell Peppers1 medium sized
Beef Cubes1/2 kg
Cocunot / Gata mix powder1 sachet
Curry Powder1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder1 1/2 tsp
Salt1 tsp
Pepper1 tsp
Sugar2-3 tbsp
Oyster Sauce2-3 tbsp

Steps in making a Beef Randang (Rendeng):

1Tenderized beef cubes then set aside.
2In a casserole, saute finely chopped and crushed garlic, onions, ginger, and chillies in butter (you may opt to blenderized the spices prior to saute, if not better crushed it using mortar and pestle)
3Once the spices look cooked, add then the tenderized beef, oyster sauce, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper. Mix then simmer for 3-5minutes in low to medium fire.
4Dissolve coconut gata mix powder and curry powder in hot water then add to the mixture in the casserole.
5Add sugar and bell peppers.
6Cook slowly until the mixture reduces and turns brown and the oil separates.
7Garnish with spring onion. Best serve with rice.
